My love is a red, red Rose.

My love is a red, red rose’. Robbie Burns 1794

Burns wrote about his love not love for another.
Here we learn that the tune orginaly set to the Burns poem put the emphasis on the singer’s feelings, that is was these Burns wrote about, his anxieties and feelings. The popular song set to the poem changes the emphasis, to being about the object of the lover’s desires.

The ‘English’ language is a hairy beast.
